Retainers are a very important part of your Invisalign treatment, and are used to keep your teeth in their new straight positions. Teeth have a habit of moving back to their original positions, so wearing a retainer stops your hard work during orthodontic treatment from being lost. We recommend you wear your retainer on a part time basis (usually overnight) for as long as you want your teeth to stay straight.
To make sure your Invisalign teeth straightening treatment is the most effective, you need to wear your clear aligners for 22 hours per day. You can take them out for eating, drinking, brushing your teeth, and playing some contact sports or instruments, but it is very important to remember to put them back in your mouth afterwards. Your treatment is effectively on pause every time your aligners are out of your mouth, so you need to make sure you wear your aligners so your final outcome is not affected.
