Dental check-ups

Dental check-ups

The NHS states that the time between check-ups can vary from patient to patient, depending on how your overall oral health is. When you get a dental check-up, we will be able to let you know when we would like to see you again. For many patients, this is every six months, but it could be anything from three months to two years. When you attend a dental check-up with us, you can expect the following.

  • We examine your teeth, gums, and mouth, and we check for signs of oral cancer
  • We will ask you about your general health and any problems you’ve had with your teeth, mouth, or gums since your last visit
  • We discuss and offer advice on your diet, smoking and alcohol use, and teeth-cleaning habits
  • We will arrange how long you should wait until your next appointment with us
Children’s dentistry

Children’s dentistry

With younger smiles, we are firm believers in maintaining a high level of dental hygiene throughout childhood and into adulthood. We have preventative treatments such as fluoride varnishes and fissure sealants to help give young teeth the best chance of a long life.

We all know kids love a sweet treat, but it’s good to be mindful of how sugary drinks and snacks can affect their teeth. They’re the biggest culprits when it comes to tooth decay. So, it’s a good idea to limit sweet foods and drinks, especially between meals.

Think of it this way: when we snack, the environment in our mouths becomes a little more acidic. Usually, that’s no big deal, especially if meals are spaced out. But if kids are constantly snacking, their mouths stay in that acidic state for longer, which isn’t healthy for their teeth and gums. It’s actually better for them to finish their snack all at once rather than nibbling on it throughout the day.

And one more thing – it’s best not to use sweets as rewards or bribes. There are lots of other ways to celebrate successes or encourage good behaviour!

Preventing decay and gum disease

Preventing decay and gum disease

A large part of your dental care involves keeping your teeth and gums free of bacteria. Build-ups of plaque and tartar lead to bacteria causing issues in your mouth. For your teeth, it can lead to cavities and decay, which leads to more costly treatment further down the line. Bacteria present near the gum line causes the gum tissues to become inflamed, leading to gum disease. If left untreated, gum disease can lead to receding gums and tooth loss.

Airflow – hygiene appointments

Airflow – hygiene appointments

Want a truly sparkling smile? Airflow polishing is a fantastic way to give your teeth a deep clean that goes above and beyond what you get with a regular scale and polish. It’s designed to really tackle tartar buildup and stains, leaving you with a beautifully polished smile. In fact, for some people with heavily stained teeth, it can even be a great alternative to whitening!

So, how does it work? Airflow treatment uses a powerful but gentle spray of water, bicarbonate, and compressed air to whisk away plaque and those pesky yellow, brown, or grey stains. The spray is super precise, so it can reach even those tricky spots in your mouth, cleaning them effectively in a fast and comfortable way.

The best part? It’s completely pain-free and much gentler than a traditional scale and polish, which can sometimes cause sensitivity. Airflow polishing is quick and easy, and you’ll leave our practice with noticeably brighter, healthier-looking teeth after just one visit!

Restoring your smile

Restoring your smile

Our teeth are subjected to a lot during our lifetimes so it’s natural to expect a bit of wear and tear. Restorative dentistry involves a range of treatments that can repair teeth with fillings and crowns for any extensive repair work. We can also use bridges and dentures to replace missing teeth.

If you want to fix a chipped tooth, cover some discolouration, or just give a damaged tooth a fresh start, crowns are a fantastic, natural-looking way to restore and protect your smile. Think of them as a little “cap” that completely covers your whole tooth, hiding any chips, cracks, discoloration, or imperfections caused by large fillings. They’re so discreet, that no one will even know! Crowns can also be used to support dental bridges or even be placed on dental implants for a truly beautiful and functional result.

Getting a filling is something most of us experience at some point – it’s a really common way to fix cavities and repair any damage to your teeth. If you’re looking for a natural-looking option, composite fillings are a great choice. They not only rebuild your tooth and get it working perfectly again, but they also look fantastic! Dental composite is made from a mix of glass and plastic that, once hardened, looks just like your natural tooth enamel. Plus, it can be colour-matched perfectly, so your filling will blend right in.
